I started off thinking this would be less of a story more of a mini opus condensing such a meal is not an easy task I’ve been thinking about this one for 2 weeks. Truth be told I’d been putting it off not knowing quite where to begin.
Black and green those colours run through everything this place is clever and thought has gone into every detail from the bepsoke hand made dishes themselves to every aspect of the dining room. It feel modern, Nordic and right on the cutting edge.
Multiple tasting courses invariably lead to a list of “this is what we ate” and little more substantial. Which has all the appeal of “look at my pictures from tuscany” about it. I’m going to try and avoid that but inevitably this could get a bit listy.
Meadowsweet I recoil in horror. Now listen, I will eat bloody anything. I have eaten some questionable nigiri in the fish market in Tokyo (in fact I ate 2 of them- since the SDB was certainly not going to eat hers) I know what it was but I rarely admit to myself what it was. It was a textural thing more than anything yet it tasted ok. (no it wasn’t whale, though I know a vegetarian who once did eat whale – another story for another time). I’ve had Meadowsweet before – at Dabbous. I hated it then, I hate it now. A flavour, that just reminds me of a weed and that is so overpowering it dominates everything. Note to self I have a dietary requirement going forward – no meadowsweet.
It is very good, it is accomplished daring but it is not for everyone.
